1. How do we know if we are eligible to apply for a grant?
Please refer to our Grants Requirements page to make sure that your organization meets all of our requirements and falls within our geographic focus.
The grants application process is quite time- and labor-intensive for applicants, so you should not submit a proposal that does not clearly fit the guidelines, fall within our geographic focus areas or seems unlikely to receive funding.
2. How do I fill out your eligibility worksheet?
Please refer to pages 1 and 2 of your IRS 990 Form.
Step 1:
Select your state. (If you do not see your state, please refer to our geographic focus restrictions located on our Grants page.)
Step 2:
Direct public support is listed on page 9 of your 2008 990 form as line item 1C and 1F in column A.
Indirect public support is listed on page 9 of your 2008 990 form as line item 1A and 1B in column A.
Step 3:
Refer to page 10, line items 5 - 10 in column A.
Take the sum of items 5A through 10A and divide it by line item 25 A.
3. Why can't I see my state on your eligibility worksheet?
If your state is not an option on our eligibility worksheet, it does not fall within our geographic focus.
4. What is direct and indirect public support?
Direct public support can be defined as contributions, gifts, grants and bequests received directly from the public. Includes amounts received from individuals, trusts, corporations, estates, Foundations, public charities or raised by an outside professional fundraiser.
Indirect public support can be defined as contributions received indirectly from the public (1) through solicitation campaigns conducted by federated fundraising agencies or organizations such as the United Way; (2) from a parent organization or another organization with the same parent; or (3) from a subordinate organization.
5. How are your geographic focus areas determined?
TWF will typically align our geographic focus to areas in which we host our charitable events. In addition, TWF selects states that contribute high levels of annual donations.
6. How much should we apply for?
We will not fund more than 25% of your program's budget. Generally, TWF awards grants ranging between $2,500 and $25,000.
7. Do you fund internationally?
Yes, however our international support has been currently earmarked through 2011.
8. Do you fund individuals?
We are not able to provide funding to individuals. Our foundation is currently restricted to funding 501 (C)(3) organizations only.
9. Do you fund pilot programs?
We are not able to provide funding to pilot programs. (Pilot programs are less than one year old). In order to be eligible for a grant, the program must have been in existence for at least one year.
10. If we are not funded, how soon can we apply again?
Organizations must wait one full calendar year to reapply.
11. I am from a religious organization, and we are not required to file a 990 with the IRS. Are we still eligible to apply?
Unfortunately, you must file a 990 in order to be eligible.
12. Our grant proposal was denied for a grant. Can we find out why?
Due to the volume of grant proposals we receive, the Tiger Woods Foundation is unable to discuss the details of your proposal.
13. I have tried to complete the worksheet as directed by your Web site instructions but have been unable to complete the process.
If you are using an older operating system, you may experience technical difficulties. If this problem persists, please send us an e-mail for further assistance.
14. The executive director of our organization will be in town on "x" date and would like to schedule a meeting with a TWF staff member. Can we make an appointment?
Unfortunately, due to the volume of grant proposals we receive, the Tiger Woods Foundation does not have the capacity to meet with grant seekers.
